You are no doubt excited by the prospect of transforming your home’s appearance and performance with professionally installed James Hardie siding. The sooner your new fiber cement siding is in place, the sooner you can enjoy the energy savings, comfort, and beauty that comes with the job. Like any quality work, however, there are several steps Holeman takes to ensure the job gets done right. As a James Hardie Elite Preferred installer, we adhere to all the manufacturer’s guidelines.
Factors Influencing the Installation Timeline
Still, we know you want to finish your project as soon as possible, and our skilled craftspeople take pains to make that happen. The average job takes between 7 and 14 days to complete. Of course, your home is not average. Your project timeline will depend on several factors:
- Square Footage – Bigger homes need more siding and that means more time.
- Number of Stories – The higher we have to go, the longer it takes to haul panels up scaffolding, etc.
- Weather – Thunderstorms and high winds create unsafe working conditions and force projects to be suspended.
- Product Selection – James Hardie manufactures an extensive range of siding products, each requiring different installation methods. If you choose primed siding, we will need a few extra days to paint it.
- Unexpected Damage – If your existing siding has been torn or come loose, there’s a chance that moisture has damaged the home’s framing. Remediating wood rot, mold, and other internal damage takes time.
- Landscaping – Steep slopes, bushes, and trees near your home make it difficult for crew members to position themselves and the siding panels. nt to the home
Before the Work Begins
Most jurisdictions require a building permit before work can commence on your siding project. Holeman will fill out the paperwork and file for the permit based on your choices and the contract terms. The permit protects everyone’s rights and ensures everyone upholds their end of the bargain. It also brings in a third party to inspect the work and give unbiased approval that the siding is structurally sound and will protect your home for decades.
With the paperwork in order, we can order your materials based on our measurements and estimates. We will schedule a dumpster to be delivered to your property shortly before our scheduled start date. If local ordinances do not allow the dumpster to be left in the street, you will have to make arrangements to keep it on your property. Direct the delivery team where to put it. The driveway is a logical spot, and you can ask that it be left in a location that allows access to the garage and front door.
Our Process
Holeman’s residential siding installation will envelop your home in a tough, beautiful shell that keeps indoor air inside and heat, drafts, noise, and pests outside where they belong. Here are the steps involved in completing the job:
- Tear-Off – We remove the old aluminum, vinyl, wood, or stone siding. Installing new James Hardie siding over existing materials not only creates a clunky, less seamless appearance and deprives us of the chance to find problems that can cost dearly down the road. It also voids the siding’s warranty.
- Inspection – With the old siding removed, Holeman’s experts can check the framing components for damage caused by termites, mold, and wood rot. Gaps in existing siding have been known to allow bees, squirrels, mice, and other pets to invade, where they can chew through wiring, destabilize the home’s structure, and present health and safety concerns.
- Weatherproofing – Next, we envelop the walls in Hardie Wrap or a comparable moisture barrier. The wrap keeps rain and humidity off the wood structures beneath the siding while allowing airflow through the gaps between the siding and the lumber so your house can breathe.
- Installation – Holeman complies with the manufacturer’s approved installation process, including nailing patterns that assure a snug fit with room for siding panels to expand and contract with temperature fluctuations. This attention to quality comes through in our laser-straight alignment, perfect spacing, zero exposed fasteners, and other details.
- Inspection – Our team will be proud to show off its work. We will walk you through all sides of your house, pointing out details of the work and demonstrating your new siding’s seamless appearance, secure fastening, and quality workmanship.
